In Loving Memory of Michael Ray Corbin

Michael Ray Corbin, lovingly known to many as "Big Mike," 77, of Cleveland, Mississippi, passed away on May 29, 2026. Born on December 1, 1948, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Mike lived a life defined by dedication to his family, service to others, and a passion for the people and pursuits he loved.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, David (Pete) and Laurette Corbin, and his sister, Lori Lee Corbin. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Corbin, whose partnership and love were the foundation of a life well lived for 54 years.

He leaves behind two sons who were the pride of his life: Chris Corbin (Angie) of Cleveland, Mississippi, and Brian Corbin (Michelle) of Hernando, Mississippi. He was a devoted Big Mike to Turner Corbin and his daughter, Athena Eleanor Corbin, Ashlee Clair Corbin, and Peyton Corbin, each of whom brought him immense joy and countless reasons to smile. He is also survived by his brother, Neil Corbin, along with many extended family members, lifelong friends, and former colleagues who will miss him dearly. Big Mike also leaves behind his devoted caregiver, Brenda D., whose compassionate care, friendship, and unwavering support brought comfort and companionship during his later years. The family is deeply grateful for the love and kindness she shared with him.

Mike dedicated much of his professional life to helping others succeed. He retired from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, where he oversaw the vocational education program and worked to provide opportunities and hope to those seeking a better future. Following retirement, he served as Headmaster of North Sunflower Academy for five years before sharing his passion for education and athletics as a physical education coach at Presbyterian Day School.

A proud Delta State Statesmen supporter, Mike rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on Delta State football. His love for sports was matched only by his love of golf. For decades, he was a familiar and beloved presence at Cleveland Country Club. Whether participating in tournaments or simply enjoying a round with friends, the golf course was one of his favorite places to be. If the temperature climbed above 32 degrees, there was a good chance Big Mike would be out on the course.

Mike’s accomplishments extended far beyond the golf course. He was honored with induction into the Delta State Football Hall of Fame, a recognition of his dedication and contributions to the sport. A lifelong supporter of education, he earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and Specialist degrees from Delta State University. Mike was also a talented golfer, winning multiple Club Championships at the Drew Country Club over the years. Yet among all his achievements, none brought him greater pride than his family. He treasured the opportunity to coach his sons in numerous sports, creating memories and lessons that would last a lifetime. Above all, his greatest accomplishment was the love he shared with his wife, children, and grandchildren, who remained the center of his world.

Big Mike will be remembered for his warm heart, steadfast loyalty, quick smile, and the genuine care he showed to everyone he met. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and encouragement to countless people, and his legacy will live on in the lives he touched.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 p.m. immediately following visitation. In honor of Big Mike's love of golf, the family invites all who attend to wear golf or casual attire, no suits. Guests are also welcome to arrive by golf cart, a fitting tribute to one of Big Mike’s greatest passions and the joy he found on the golf course with family and friends.
